Product Description This title contains a book and 2 audio CDs. Ladino, also known as Judeo-Spanish, is the language of the Sephardic Jews. During the middle ages, the Jews who lived in the Iberian Peninsula spoke and wrote in the Romance languages of the host culture. They developed a unified dialect that was distinct from Castilian Spanish. After the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, this language became part of the 'Iberian Heritage' of the Sephardim throughout the world. Today, although the language is in danger of extinction, it is experiencing a revival.

| Customer Reviews: Begining Ladino July 7, 2010 Aaron A. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since this is the only audio program available, I have to say it's ok. It would have been much better if they had used the Pimsleur approach to learning. That's my opinion. I already speak fluent Spanish, french, and some Italian so this was pretty easy for me. I did, however, find it distracting that one of the so-called native speakers had, what seemed to me,an obvious American type accent. It didn't give me the confidence that I was getting the true pronunciation. Over all, I recommend it since there is nothing else out there. for those interested, you can listen to Ladino broadcasts, from Israel, online. It's one of many languages being broadcast on Kol Israel (All of Israel) radio.
Good Resource October 31, 2008 Ladino Learner (NY) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Anyone who is interested in learning Ladino will know that there is a scarcity of material. I am midway through the book and CD's and think it is an excellent resource; the author is to be commended for a thorough work. My only criticism is that the CDs do not contain the English translations. This is awkward if the learner wants to practice without having the book in front of them. All in all, I would highly recommend Ladino for Beginners.
